Health and safety
Hours, rest and fatigue
Tired driving is a safety issue, not just a tough week. Employed drivers may have Working Time rules. Larger vehicles can have tachograph rules. Self-employed still have duties not to drive when unfit.
What to watch for
- Rounds that cannot be finished without skipping breaks
- Night work with no rest discussion
- Pressure to keep a handheld logged on after you are unsafe to drive
Practical next steps
- Write down start, finish and break times for a normal week
- Read HSE guidance on fatigue and GOV.UK drivers' hours if the vehicle is in scope
- Raise it in writing with the operator; use the community only for general talk, not case details
